MEMPHIS—Bethel first baseman Jonathon Keck homered twice and drove in nine runs to lead the Wildcats to a 20-6 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Monday afternoon at Buc Field.
The Wildcats (7-10), who batted around three times in the game's eight innings, capitalized on a variety of CBU (6-10) miscues in the first and fourth innings. The Wildcats scored three times in the first inning on two walks, three hits, a balk, an error, and two wild pitches. Two walks, three errors, three hits, and a balk led to a six-run fourth inning, giving Bethel a 9-0 lead. Keck picked up his first two RBI's with a two-run single up the middle.
The Bucs' bats began to wake up in the fourth inning as
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) singled and scored on an error.
The Wildcats scored twice in the sixth as Jonathan Deberry tripled to right-center.
The Bucs put together a big inning of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Wright and
Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning.
Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) hit a two-run double to center, and
Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) followed with a two-run homer to left to cut the lead to 11-5.
From there, Keck's bat put the game out of reach. He hit a three-run homer to center in the seventh, and his grand slam capped a six-run eighth inning to set the final score. Keck finished 4-for-6 with three runs and nine RBI.
Escajadillo also hit an RBI single to center in the bottom of the seventh.
Escajadillo, Trouy, Wright, and
David Clayton (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) rapped out two hits each for the Bucs. Escajadillo drove in three runs, Trouy drove in two, and Wright scored twice.
The Bucs return to the field tomorrow afternoon as they host Rhodes at 3 p.m.
