ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—A three-run sixth inning lifted the Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 5-4 win over host Henderson State in the second game of Sunday's Gulf South Conference West Division doubleheader after losing a 15-11 slugfest in the opener.
The Bucs (10-31, 1-14 GSC West) scored first in the nightcap as
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) hit his second homer in as many days in the top of the first, but the Reddies (32-14, 8-10) answered with a two-out Jeremy Sauceda homer in the bottom half of the inning.
The Bucs scored a run in the third as
Andrew Searcy (Adamsville, Tenn./Adamsville HS) singled and scored on a
Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) base hit, but the Reddies scored three in the bottom of the third to take the lead back.
In the sixth, Shelton drew a leadoff walk, and Wright reached on a sacrifice bunt as the Reddies tried to force Shelton at second and failed. After a groundout and a strikeout,
Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) ripped a two-run double to tie the game, and
Thomas Turner (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) drove him in with a single.
From there, reliever

Searcy was the only Buc with multiple hits in the game, as he went 2-for-3.

The Bucs struck first when
Will Britt (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) launched a three-run homer with two out in the top of the first, but the Reddies answered with a five-spot in the bottom of the inning.
After each team scored in the second, the Bucs again took the lead in the third inning as they started the inning with four straight base hits, then capped it with a
David Clayton (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sacrifice fly to give the Bucs a 7-6 lead. The Reddies knotted the game again with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Each team scored one in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Reddies blew it open in the bottom of the sixth when they scored six runs on a single, three doubles, a homer, and an error.
The Bucs scored twice in the ninth as Trouy singled and Turner followed with a one-out homer, but the threat ended there as the Reddies held on for the 15-11 victory.
