Tigers Sweep Bucs in Final Weekend

Joseph Kaminski went 4-for-9 with two homers for the weekend, but the Bucs lost all three games at Ouachita Baptist this weekend to finish the season.
ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Host Ouachita Baptist wrapped up the No. 4 seed in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament as they swept a three-game series from the Christian Brothers University Bucs this weekend.

Saturday afternoon, the Tigers (37-18, 11-10 GSC West) claimed a 12-2, 7-1 doubleheader sweep over the Bucs (10-35, 1-17).

In the first game, the Bucs struck first.  Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drew a one-out walk, and  Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) followed with a two-out, two-run homer to give the Bucs a quick 2-0 lead, but it wouldn't last.

The Tigers scored in the bottom of the first as Drew Maus singled and scored on a Will Gowdy double.  The Tigers took control in the third, scoring three runs as they batted around with two homers, a triple, a single, a walk, and a hit batter.

They tacked on a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, and they ended it with a four-run seventh and one run in the eighth inning to set the margin at 12-2.

The Bucs were held to four hits in the game: Kaminski's homer and a single each from Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), Will Britt (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS), and Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS).

In the nightcap, Gowdy, who was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI's, did his damage from the mound, retiring the first 18 Bucs in order.

He also provided his own run support, going 3-for-4 in the second game with an RBI double and a run in the third and an RBI single in the fourth.  The Tigers scored twice in each inning to take a 4-0 lead, and they put it away with a three-run fifth inning.

The Bucs finally broke up the perect game in the seventh as Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) hit a leadoff single to left.  After a flyout, three straight singles from Wright, Kaminski, and Britt brought a run in and loaded the bases with one out, but a flyout and a groundout ended the game.

Sunday, the Tigers pounded out 17 hits and drew nine walks as they rolled to a 17-2 win.

Kaminski hit another first-inning bomb, putting the Bucs up 2-0 after Escajadillo had started the game with a double.  He moved to third on a Shelton groundout, and he scored on a Wright sacrifice fly.

The Tigers answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead for good.  They put it away in the middle of the game with a five-run fourth that included a grand slam by Rudy Jovanovski and an eight-run fifth to set the final margin.

Kaminski finished the game 2-for-3 as the Bucs were held to five hits for the game.  In addition to Escajadillo's double, Shelton hit a third-inning single and Trouy doubled in the fourth.
