Bucs Hold Off Cougars 64-51

Kevin Doran scored 15 points on five three-pointers as the Bucs won 64-51 over Mid-Continent Monday night at Canale Arena.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs made 12 three-pointers as they held off Mid-Continent 64-51 Monday night in their final non-conference game of the season.

The Bucs (10-3) took control with a 12-2 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers by Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) and Kevin Doran (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), turning a 12-11 deficit into a 23-14 lead with 6:47 remaining in the half.

After the Bucs had led by double figures most of the second half, Mid-Continent cut the lead back to 51-42 with 7:51 remaining on a Donovan Willis layup.  The Bucs answered with a Warner dunk, sparking a 10-2 run where the Bucs stretched the lead to 61-44 on a Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) fast-break three-pointer with 4:33 remaining.  MCU came no closer than 11 points again.

Warner led the Bucs with 20 points and three blocks, while Doran had 15 points off the bench.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) grabbed 17 rebounds to go with seven points, three assists, and three steals.  Couvion finished with seven points, nine assists, and five steals with no turnovers.

Joshua Woodley led Mid-Continent with 19 points.  The Cougars counted Monday night's game as an exhibition, while the game counted as a regulation game for CBU.

The Bucs shot 40 percent (12-of-30) from three-point range and 42.9 percent (21-of-49) overall while holding the Cougars to 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor.  The Bucs out-rebounded Mid-Continent 35-30 but committed 21 turnovers to the Cougars' 20.

The Bucs open Gulf South Conference West Division play Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they host Arkansas-Monticello.
