Free Throws Carry Tigers Past Bucs 59-54

Zack Warner scored 22 points, but the Bucs dropped a 59-54 decision at Ouachita Baptist Thursday night.
Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Host Ouachita Baptist made 21 of 28 free throws as they edged the Christian Brothers University Bucs 59-54 in Gulf South Conference West Division play Thursday night.

The game was close throughout, with four ties, 12 lead changes, and no leads of more than eight points.

After a Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) three-pointer gave the Bucs (14-8, 4-5 GSC West) their final lead, 44-43 with 6:40 remaining, OBU (6-16, 2-7) guard Emmanuel Engulu scored four straight points to give the tigers the lead again.  Two Scott Day free throws pushed the lead to 49-44 with 4:59 remaining, and the Bucs could never come closer than two again.

Warner scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Bucs, while Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) had 17 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Belford Williams led the Tigers with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Engulu added 11 in 21 minutes off the bench.

The Bucs shot just 37.5 percent (21-of-56) for the game, including 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from three-point range.  Ouachita finished 44.7 percent (17-of-38) overall and 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from three point range.  OBU shot 75 percent (21-of-28) at the free throw line to the Bucs' 71.4 percent (5-of-7).

OBU out-rebounded the Bucs 31-29, including a 19-11 second-half margin.

The Bucs return to the court Saturday at 4 p.m. as they host Delta State.
