Lynx Pull Away From Bucs, 15-4

Joseph Kaminski steals third base in the Bucs' 15-4 loss at Rhodes Wednesday. Kaminski went 2-for-4 with a run.
MEMPHIS—Host Rhodes sent 34 batters to the plate in the first four innings on their way to a 15-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday afternoon.

The Lynx (2-1) struck first in the bottom of the first inning as they used a hit batter, two singles, a walk, and a passed ball to plate two.

The Bucs (0-4) turned in their best offensive inning of the season in the top of the second.  Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) led off with a single, and Yogi Vanaman (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) drew a walk.  After Kaminski and Vanaman stole third and second, respectively, a David Alan Wright (Olive Branch, Miss., DeSoto Central HS) groundout and a 400-foot Anthony Apro (Lexington, Ky./West Jessamine HS) double to center tied the game at 2.  Apro scored on a Kyle Moore (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) single, and Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers HS) capped the scoring with an RBI single to bring home Matt Van Slyke (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS), putting the Bucs in front 4-2.

The Lynx capitalized on a costly error in the bottom of the inning.  With two on and one out, the Bucs committed an error on a sacrifice bunt, and a two-run single from Travis Perkins and a three-run triple from Austin Marcum put Rhodes ahead for good, 7-4, with five unearned runs.

They tacked on five more in the third inning, capped by a three-run triple by Perkins, and he completed his 3-for-5, 8-RBI day with a three-run homer to right in the fourth inning to set the final score.

Kaminski went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base for CBU, while Moore, Apro, and Alan Wright collected one hit each.

Justin Hopper (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) threw a scoreless sixth inning out of the bullpen for the Bucs, striking out a batter.

The Bucs hit the road tomorrow afternoon for a 1:30 p.m. game at Union.  They return home this weekend.  Doubleheaders are set for noon Saturday and Sunday against Robert Morris-Springfield.
