The Norse (3-2) established their offense early with four first-inning runs. After the Bucs (4-8) answered with a pair on a
David Alan Wright (Olive Branch, Miss., DeSoto Central HS) two-run double in the bottom of the first, NKU pushed five runs across in the third.
Yogi Vanaman (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) blasted a solo homer to left in the bottom of the third, a long homer that one-hopped the Capstone Apartments well beyond the fence.
An eight-run fourth and a three-run sixth set the final margin for the Norse in the first game.
Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) went 2-for-3 in the game, while Wright drove in two of the Bucs' three runs.
In the second game, the Norse jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first and two in the second. The Bucs trimmed the lead to 5-3 with a three-run second inning.
Aaron Short (Cleveland, Tenn./Cleveland HS) hit a leadoff single and scored on two wild pitches. Two more singles and a walk loaded the bases for a two-out, two-run
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers HS) single.
The Norse would stretch the lead out with a run in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh before
Anthony Apro (Lexington, Ky./West Jessamine HS) singled Kaminski home with two out in the seventh to set the final score.
Apro and
Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) collected two hits each in the nightcap, while Wright drove in two.
The Bucs and Norse meet again Sunday at noon for the third game of the series.
