Lady Bucs Split DH at Lambuth

Kaylea Brewer threw four hitless innings with seven strikeouts and blasted a two-run homer as the Lady Bucs won the second game 12-0 at Lambuth Wednesday. LU won the opener 3-1.
JACKSON, Tenn.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a doubleheader at Lambuth Wednesday afternoon, dropping the first game 3-1 but rolling to a 12-0 win in the second game.

In the first game, Lambuth (1-1) jumped to an early lead as Whitney King hit a two-out first-inning homer.  Eagle pitcher Dentaisha kept the Lady Bucs (3-5) off balance, only allowing four baserunners through the sixth inning.  Lambuth would put it away in the sixth as Meadows and King both hit one-out singles and scored to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Bucs were down to their last out when Lauren Dorsett (Mufreesboro, Tenn./Blackman HS) sparked the rally with a single.  Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) drew a walk, and Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) loaded the bases with a single.  Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS) drove in a run as she was hit by a pitch, but Meadows found the final out on a popout.

The loss spoiled another solid outing from Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS), who gave up three runs in five and a third innings, allowing just four hits and a walk as she struck out six.  McEachron falls to 0-4 on the year despite not allowing more than four earned runs in any of her starts.

In the nightcap, Brewer needed very little help offensively, only allowing three baserunners -- two walks and an error -- as she struck out seven in four shutout innings.  The Lady Bucs, however, gave her plenty of it with four runs in the first, two in the third, and six in the fifth to roll to a 12-0 final.

Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) blasted a three-run homer in the first and an RBI double in the fifth, extending her hitting streak to five games.  Nelson hit a pair of two-run homers in the third and fifth innings, and Brewer helped her own cause with another two-run shot two batters after Nelson's fifth-inning homer.

Nelson and Brooke Davis (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) each went 4-for-4.  Nelson scored three runs and drove in four, while Davis scored twice.  Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) and Kramer each went 2-for-3.  Kramer scored twice and drove in four runs.

McEachron threw a scoreless fifth to finish the game at 12-0.

The Lady Bucs return to the field Saturday at noon as they welcome Bethel to Bland Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
