MEMPHIS—A day after losing 10-0 at Bethel, the Christian Brothers University Bucs led most of the way before dropping a 9-6 decision against the Wildcats at Buc Field.
The Wildcats (9-0-1) scored in the top of the first, but the Bucs (4-11) tied it in the second as
Aaron Short (Cleveland, Tenn./Cleveland HS) doubled home
David Alan Wright (Olive Branch, Miss., DeSoto Central HS), who had reached on a two-out single.
Yogi Vanaman (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) blasted a three-run homer as part of a four-run third inning that lifted the Bucs to a 5-1 lead, but Bethel slowly chipped away at the lead.
The Wildcats scored a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to pull within two, and they tied it on a two-run Jake Ramsey single in the seventh. Ramsey would go 3-for-5 with five RBI.
The Wildcats turned five singles, two sacrifices, a wild pitch, and an error into four runs in the top of the eighth to retake the lead, and the Bucs left the bases loaded after a two-out RBI walk from
Matt Van Slyke (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) in the bottom of the eighth. Bethel retired the side in order in the ninth.
Alan Wright (Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers HS),
Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS), and Short collected two hits each, while David Alan Wright scored twice. Short also tossed an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief, allowing two hits.
The Bucs return to the field Sunday as they visit Lambuth.
