MEMPHIS—Visiting Lambuth scored in the first and last innings as they claimed a 2-1 victory over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday afternoon in the final game of the season for both squads.
In the first inning, Lambuth (15-27) appeared on their way to a big day. They started the game with back-to-back singles, and an error on a sacrifice bunt brought their first run home. They appeared to score again on a sacrifice fly for the first out, but the runner from third was called out on appeal for leaving before the catch.
Michelle McEachron (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) drew a groundout to end the inning and settled down, only allowing two more baserunners as she struck out seven in five innings. She allowed four hits and a walk.
After stranding four runners in the first two innings, the Lady Bucs (17-29) finally scored in the third as
Alana Kramer (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) singled and scored on an
Emily Schmidt (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) single down the left field line. The Lady Bucs would not score again, stranding four runners in scoring position.
Lambuth broke the tie in the top of the seventh as Paige Pyburn led off with a triple down the right field line that landed on an uneven spot of grass and rolled away from right fielder
Shanae Farrell (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven HS) and into the corner. Relief pitcher
Kaylea Brewer (Pulaski, Tenn./Giles County HS), who took over in the sixth, appeared to dodge the threat after a strikeout and two popups, but a two-out error allowed the run to score. Brewer allowed one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) singled and advanced to second on an error in the bottom of the seventh, but she was stranded there with a foulout and a groundout.
Nelson and Kramer collected two hits each, while
Alyse Brewer (Florence, Ala./Florence HS),
Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS), Schmidt, and Farrell also posted a hit.
After the game, the Lady Bucs honored three seniors,
Alyse Brewer (Florence, Ala./Florence HS),
Jessica DiVittorio (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS), and
Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS).
