Dennis Carries No. 19 Bucs to 73-65 Win

Scott Dennis had a career-high 37 points and 14 rebounds to carry the Bucs to a 73-65 win at Ouachita Baptist Thursday night.
Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Junior guard Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio, Sycamore HS) scored a career-high 37 points to carry the No. 19 Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 73-65 win at Ouachita Baptist Thursday night, head coach Mike Nienaber's 200th victory at CBU.

After the Bucs (15-3, 3-1 GSC West) had led throughout the first half, but OBU (6-10, 1-3) went on a 9-1 run to take a 26-24 lead on an Emmanuel Engulu three-point play with 1:16 remaining in the first half.  Dennis put the Bucs back in front with back-to-back layups before halftime, and the Bucs never relinquished the lead again.

After the break, Dennis picked up where he left off, scoring 23 points in the second half, making all three field goal attempts and going 17-of-19 at the free throw line. 

When Ouachita made its biggest challenge in the second half, pulling within 51-46 on a Julian LaDay three-point play with 4:33 remaining, Dennis almost single-handedly put the game back on ice.  He made four straight free throws to extend the lead back to nine points, then he found Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) for a deep three-pointer from the left wing as the shot clock expired to lift the Bucs to a 58-46 lead, their biggest of the night, with 2:28 remaining.

In all, Dennis accounted for 42 of the Bucs' 73 points.  He was 9-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point range.  He added 14 rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) had 13 points, seven assists, and five rebounds, while Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) scored 11 with five rebounds off the bench.

Austin Mitchell led the Tigers with 13.  LaDay and Engulu scored 11 each, and Nigel Ramsey added 10 with five assists.

The Bucs were 42.6 percent (20-of-47) overall and 82.9 percent (29-of-35) at the free throw line.  Ouachita was 41.2 percent (21-of-51) overall and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the free throw line.  The Bucs out-rebounded OBU 40-20, with a 9-0 edge in offensive rebounds.

The Bucs come home Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they take on No. 22 Harding.
