Bucs Cruise Past Cougars 63-52

Zack Warner scored 23 points in 23 minutes in the Bucs' 63-52 win over Cincinnati-Clermont.
Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—Senior forward Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo., Clayton HS) scored a game-high 23 points in just 23 minutes as the Christian Brothers University Bucs cruised to a 63-52 win over Cincinnati-Clermont at the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Northern Kentucky University Saturday afternoon.

After a back-and-forth first half that ended with the Bucs (4-0) leading 24-20, a Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) triple sparked a 21-5 run to open the second half and remove all doubt from the outcome, pushing the Bucs to a 45-25 lead on a Warner dunk with 12:32 remaining.  The Bucs' lead grew to 52-29 on a Daniel Wulker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS) three-point play with 8:33 remaining before the Cougars (3-6) outscored the Bucs 23-11 the rest of the way to cut the final margin to 11.

Warner scored his 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 1-of-2 from three-point range and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.  He added three assists and three blocks as well.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) fell short of a double-double for the first time this season, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in just 21 minutes.  In all, 10 of the 12 Bucs who played scored, but only Dennis and Warner scored more than five points.

Justen Hollins paced the Cougars with 15 points, while Devin Bartlett added 11.

The Bucs shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) overall and 40 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range to the Cougars' 43.8 percnet (21-of-48) and 38.5 percent (5-of-7).  UC-Clermont out-rebounded the Bucs 30-24, but the Bucs forced 16 turnovers while committing 10.

The Bucs hit the road to visit former GSC West nemesis Arkansas Tech Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.  Their next home game, also against ATU, is set for Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
