Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Ouachita Baptist out-scored the Christian Brothers University Bucs 18-6 over the final 5:12 to rally for a 53-49 win after the Bucs had led by as many as 14 points early in the second half.
The Bucs (17-8, 5-6 GSC West) went on an 11-1 run over three minutes late in the first half, triggered by a
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) three with 4:54 remaining and capped by a pair of McArthy free throws three minutes later, giving the Bucs a 25-16 lead.
A
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) three with 15:48 remaining lifted the Bucs to a 34-20 lead, capping a 9-2 run that started in the final minute of the first half. From there, the Tigers (9-14, 4-7) changed to a full-court press defensively, and the resulting chaos started their comeback.
An Olden Jordan layup followed by an Emmanuel Engulu three-pointer started the rally, and back-to-back threes from Nigel Ramsey and Austin Mitchell drew them within a point at 43-42 with 4:02 remaining. Another Mitchell three tied the game at 47 with two minutes remaining, and the Tigers were a perfect 6-of-6 in the final 1:16 to claim the victory, as the Bucs were shut out over the final 2:50 other than a Green layup with 17.1 seconds remaining.
The Bucs committed 12 of their 17 turnovers in the second half, while OBU committed just nine turnovers. The Bucs held OBU to 34.8 percent (16-of-46) from the floor, but they added a 27-26 rebound margin to their turnover margin to hold a commanding edge in scoring chances. The Bucs shot 40.5 percent (15-of-37) for the game.
Despite the loss, the Bucs remain alone in fourth place in the GSC West standings at 5-6 after No. 16 Harding defeated Arkansas-Monticello 91-71 tonight, leaving UAM in a tie for fifth place with Ouachita Baptist at 4-7.
The Bucs hit the road Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. when they visit No. 16 Harding. They come home for Senior Day next Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Delta State.
