MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs won 14-4 over LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.
Playing as the visiting team, as the game was originally scheduled for LOC's home field at Tobey Park, the Bucs (13-5) scored first in the top of the first as
Brent Goode (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) doubled to left, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Seth Cline (Cottontown, Tenn./Portland HS) put the Bucs up 2-0 in the third inning when he walked and scored on an
Alfredo Arroyo (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison HS) double.
The Magicians (0-1) drew even in the bottom of the third as they scored twice on two walks, two singles, and a double. The Bucs blew it open in the top of the fourth, however, scoring eight runs on four walks, three singles, two doubles, and an error. The Bucs tacked on four more in the fifth on four walks and two singles.
The Magicians set the final score in the bottom of the fifth when they scored a pair of runs on a hit batter and two singles.
Goode, Arroyo,
Brent Ariemma (Bartlett, Tenn./St. Benedict HS),
Aaron Short (Cleveland, Tenn./Cleveland HS), and
Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) collected two hits each for the Bucs. Arroyo drove in three, while
Tyler Dunn (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) drove in two. Goode, Franklin, and Cline each scored twice.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host defending Division III national champion Illinois Wesleyan. The Bucs open GSC West play Saturday at Harding with a noon doubleheader.
