Weevils Double Up Bucs 12-6

Rob Maxwell went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but the Bucs dropped a 12-6 decision at Arkansas-Monticello Sunday.
MONTICELLO, Ark.—Host Arkansas-Monticello scored in six of eight innings, including a five-run sixth inning, as they won 12-6 over the Christian Brothers University Bucs to complete a sweep of the three-game Gulf South Conference West Division series.

Early on, the game was back-and-forth.  The Bucs (14-22-1, 0-14-1 GSC West) scored a run in the top of the first on three singles, but the Weevils (15-20, 6-9) answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a single, a walk, and two errors.

The Bucs regained the lead in the third with a pair of runs.  Caleb Burrow (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) walked and moved to third a Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) double.  Both scored on a Lans Hardin (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) sacrifice fly, with Franklin coming home on a throwing error.  UAM tied the game back up in the bottom of the inning as a double and a single led to a sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, the Weevils took the lead for good with two runs on three hits and two walks.  They blew it open with a five-run sixth inning built on two walks and four hits, including a two-run homer from Fernando Garcia.

A pair of singles in the seventh created another run for UAM, giving them a commanding 11-3 lead.  The Bucs shaved two runs off the lead in the eighth on two walks, an RBI single from Rob Maxwell (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS), and another Hardin sacrifice fly.

After UAM scored again in the eighth on an error, a walk, and two groundouts, the Bucs used three walks and a bases-loaded passed ball to set the final margin in the top of the ninth.

Maxwell went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Hardin drove in two runs, while Burrow and Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) scored twice.

The Bucs will look to snap their losing streak with a rare Monday afternoon game tomorrow as they host Bethel at 3 p.m. in their final non-conference home game of the season.
