Muleriders Slug Past Bucs 11-4, 8-0

Tyler Dunn hit a two-run double in the Bucs' 11-4 loss to Southern Arkansas in game one Friday. SAU won the second game 8-0.
MEMPHIS—Visiting Southern Arkansas used an efficient offense, scoring 19 runs on 19 hits as they swept Christian Brothers University Friday afternoon, winning the opener 11-4 before blanking the Bucs 8-0 in the second game.

In the opener, SAU (28-13, 11-6 GSC West) used a pair of singles and a hit batter to get on the board in the top of the second.  The Bucs ended the bottom of the inning with three straight hits, but two outs on the bases ended the threat.

SAU took control an inning later with three runs on two walks, a single, and a Brandon Choate double.  A fourth-inning error allowed two more Mulerider runs, extending their lead to 6-0.  They blew it open in the seventh, scoring four runs on a hit batter, three singles, and a double to take a 10-0 lead.

Tyler Dunn (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) put the Bucs (15-24-1, 0-16-1) on the board with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh.  Logan Williams blasted the first of three mammoth homers of the day in the top of the eighth for SAU to extend the lead back to 11-2.  In the bottom of the eighth, Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) singled up the middle and scored on a Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) triple to right.  Lans Hardin (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) brought Wilson in on a sacrifice fly, setting the final margin.

Dunn, Brent Goode (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS), and Jake Williams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) collected two hits each for the Bucs.

In the second game, SAU hurler Doug Shields kept the Bucs stymied, tossing a three-hit shutout.  He set the first eight down in order before Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) doubled to left in the bottom of the third.  Leadoff singles in the sixth and seventh from Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) and Rob Maxwell (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) provided the only other runners of the game for the Bucs against Shields.

On the other side, the Muleriders scored in six of the game's seven innings as Williams drove in six of their eight runs.  He hit an RBI single in the first inning to bring home Trey Buck after a leadoff single.  In the third, Buck reached on an error, and Williams hit a towering fly ball down the left field line that apparently hooked around the left field pole before landing in foul territory in the parking lot.

Williams hit another RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0.  Two hits, a hit batter, and an error in the fifth produced another run before Williams hit his final homer of the day, a two-run moonshot to left-center to push the lead to 7-0.  For the game, Williams went 4-for-4 with two homers and six RBI, while his daily total was 6-for-10 with three homers, four runs, and eight RBI.

Two errors in the seventh allowed another run to score for SAU, setting the final margin.

The Bucs and Muleriders meet again Saturday at 1.
