MEMPHIS—Visiting Southern Arkansas pounded out 21 runs on 17 hits and three pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Bucs 21-0 to complete the three-game series sweep Saturday afternoon.
The Muleriders (29-13, 12-6 GSC West) scored two in the second and eight in the third to take a commanding lead, while lefty Ziggy Vanderwall tossed five innings of a two-hit shutout with just one walk.
The Bucs (15-25-1, 0-17-1) threatened to score in the third.
Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) and
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) singled in the third, and a wild pitch pushed them to second and third, but a foulout ended the threat, and the Bucs only put one more runner on the rest of the way.
The Bucs wrap up non-conference play Tuesday afternoon as they visit Freed-Hardeman for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. before wrapping up the season at home against Ouachita Baptist next weekend. They will host a fundraiser golf tournament Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Audobon Park. Saturday's 12 p.m. doubleheader will be the third annual Pirate Day, while they host Senior Day Sunday at 1 p.m.
