Tigers Blank Bucs in Senior Day Sweep

The Bucs honored their eight seniors between games against Ouachita Baptist Saturday. OBU won both games, 10-0 and 6-0.
MEMPHIS—Visiting Ouachita Baptist shut out the Christian Brothers University Bucs 10-0 and 6-0 Saturday afternoon to spoil the day's Pirate Day and Senior Day festivities.

In the first game, the Tigers (21-26, 10-10 GSC West) used a seven-run third inning to put the game out of reach quickly.  The Tigers scored a run on a hit batter and a double in the second inning, and their seven-run third took advantage of three singles, three doubles, and two errors.  They tacked on a run each in the fifth and sixth innings to set the final margin.

OBU hurler Ryan Westover limited the Bucs to three singles and two hit batters as he tossed the shutout.  The Bucs' hits, all leadoff singles, came from Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) in the first, Alfredo Arroyo (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison HS) in the third, and Aaron Short (Cleveland, Tenn./Cleveland HS) in the fifth.  Rob Maxwell (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) was hit twice.

In the second game, CBU starter John Romo (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) kept the Bucs in the game, tossing a complete game in his first career weekend start on Senior Day.  He held the Tigers to six hits and seven walks in his first career complete game, but the Bucs only mustered two singles against Ouachita lefty Kolby Moore.

The Tigers scored all the runs they would need in the first as a single, two walks, three stolen bases, and a wild pitch manufactured a run.  Romo settled down the rest of the way, retiring 12 of the next 15 batters after the difficult start.  The Tigers stretched out the lead as they scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and once in the seventh, all with two out.

Moore held the Bucs to a fourth-inning Franklin single and a sixth-inning Arroyo single.

CBU honored its eight seniors, Arroyo, Short, Romo, Ben Chism (Nesbit, Miss./DeSoto Central HS), Justin Hopper (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School), Yogi Vanaman (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS), Caleb Burrow (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS), and Lee Paine (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS), in ceremonies between games.

The final game of the series and the season has been moved to a 12 p.m. start tomorrow due to the suspected inclement weather.
