Box Score MEMPHIS—The No. 11 Christian Brothers University Bucs shot a blistering 71.4 percent for the first half and built a 29-point lead in the opening half on their way to a 91-71 win over visiting New Orleans Wednesday night at Canale Arena in their final non-conference tilt of the season.
The Bucs (20-5) made their first 10 two-point baskets and 16 of their first 17 from inside the arc, not missing their second two-point shot until 13:44 remaining in the game. In addition to the exceptional scoring around the basket, the Bucs were 9-of-16 from three-point range in the opening half as they pulled away quickly.
After the Privateers (16-13) scored on their first two possessions, the Bucs exploded for a 29-6 run to put the game out of reach early.
Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) sparked the burst with a three-point play, and
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) followed with a steal and a breakaway finger roll. Green found Warner for a dunk on the next possession, then Warner returned the favor, assisting on a Green triple to push the lead to 12-4. By the time the dust settled, the Bucs led 31-10 on a
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) three with 10:04 remaining in the half.
UNO never came closer than 15 again, and McArthy put the game even farther out of reach late in the first half, knocking down three more threes in just over a minute to lift the Bucs to a 50-24 lead with 1:30 remaining in the half. The Bucs led by as many as 35 points twice in the second half before UNO trimmed the lead to 20 in the final minutes.
Warner scored a game-high 25 in just 26 minutes as he was 8-of-10 from the floor, 1-of-2 from three-point range, and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. He added four rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.
Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) scored 16 with 10 rebounds and three assists, and McArthy scored 14 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting with three steals and three assists. Green also finished with 14, adding five assists and a pair of steals in 23 minutes.
Albert Peterson led the Privateers with 14 points, while Rarlensee Nelson and Colby Barnes added 10 each.
The Bucs close the regular season Saturday night at 6 p.m. when they visit Delta State. They have already locked up the No. 2 seed in the GSC Tournament, where they will open against No. 7 seed Valdosta State Friday, March 2.
