Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-all tie and win 10-7 over LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.
The Bucs (5-7) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as
Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) worked a leadoff walk and scored on a
Tyler Dunn (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) double.
Cody Warren (Orlando, Fla./Orangewood Christian HS) followed with an RBI single to put the Bucs ahead 2-0.
The Magicians (0-6) exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third, cashing in on three walks, two hit batters, two singles, and a three-run double from Steven Alexander.
The Bucs shaved a run off the deficit in the fifth, when Dunn was hit by a pitch and scored on a
Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) single. The Bucs batted around in the sixth inning to tie the game. A
Jake Williams (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) double sandwiched by a pair of walks loaded the bases with none out.
Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) drew a bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch brought another run home. Warren hit an RBI double to bring the Bucs within one, and
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) drove in the tying run with a groundout.
The game remained tied at 7 until the ninth inning.
Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) led the inning off with a double to right center, and
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) worked a walk. An error brought Keathley home and allowed Williams to reach, and a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch brought Cooley and Williams home to set the final margin.
The Bucs played the game as the visiting team despite playing at home, as Wednesday's game was originally scheduled to be a LeMoyne-Owen home game.
Warren and Dunn collected two hits each, and Dunn, Cooley, and Williams scored twice each. Warren drove in a pair of runs.
Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) allowed one run in four and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five.
Will Bishop (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom HS) earned the win in his first CBU appearance, tossing two perfect innings with three strikeouts.
The Bucs open GSC play at West Georgia with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. They finish the series with a single game Sunday at noon.
