Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Illinois Wesleyan pounded out 15 of their 17 hits over the final six innings as they won 9-4 over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Thursday afternoon at Buc Field.
The Bucs (6-14) scored first in the bottom of the second inning, when
Hunter Parham (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) and
Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) hit back-to-back doubles to break the ice.
Alan Wright (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) singled Hopkins home to extend the Bucs' lead to 2-0.
The Titans (5-1) scored their first run in the fourth inning on a walk and a double. In the fifth, the Titans would take the lead, batting around and scoring four runs on four singles, a double, and two walks. Four singles pushed across two more in the sixth for the Titans, extending their lead to 7-2.
The Bucs answered with one in the bottom of the sixth, when Hopkins walked, moved to second on a
Brent Goode (Jackson, Tenn./North Side HS) single, and came home on a
Seth Cline (Cottontown, Tenn./Portland HS) single to right.
IWU added one more in the seventh and ninth innings to set the final margin, and Cline hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth for the Bucs' final run.
Cline went 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Parham and Wright also collected two hits each.
Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) went 3-for-5.
The Bucs make their longest trip of the year this weekend, visiting Valdosta State for a GSC series as they start a four-game road trip. After a trip to Tennessee-Martin Tuesday night, the Bucs come home next weekend, March 24-25, to host defending national champion West Florida in a three-game GSC series.
