Blazers Complete Sweep of Bucs 11-2

Josh Hopkins went 2-for-3 in the Bucs' 11-2 loss at Valdosta State Sunday.
Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga.—Host Valdosta State scored in each of the final five innings to pull away to an 11-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon to complete to a three-game sweep of the Bucs Sunday.

The Blazers (13-7, 5-1 GSC) used two singles and a double to break the ice in the fourth inning after the first three frames were scoreless.  They tacked on another run in the fifth before the Bucs (6-17, 0-9) answered with a run in the sixth.  Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) RBI single.  After the Blazers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on three singles, a two-out Wilson double to left scored Alan Wright (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) in the top of the seventh.

The Blazers added a run in the seventh and capitalized on a leadoff error to score five two-out runs in the eighth to blow the margin wide open.

Cooley and Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) collected two hits each for the Bucs.

The Bucs step out of GSC play Tuesday night at 4 p.m. when they visit Tennessee-Martin.  They return home Saturday at noon when they host defending national champion West Florida for a doubleheader.
