Box Score MEMPHIS—No. 6 West Florida used an 11-run second inning and sterling pitching to roll to a 14-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon at Bland Field in the final game of this weekend's three-game Gulf South Conference series.
After a scoreless first, the Argos (22-8, 4-4 GSC) blew the game wide open in the top of the second, when the Argos sent 16 men to the plate, scoring 11 runs on seven hits, two errors, four walks, and a hit batter. UWF tacked on a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to set the final margin.
Meanwhile, UWF starter Brian Ellington dazzled, holding the Bucs (7-20, 1-11) to three singles and a walk as he struck out nine batters in six scoreless innings.
Hunter Parham (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS),
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS), and
Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) singled for the Bucs.
Drew Tatum (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
The Bucs step out of GSC play Tuesday afternoon when they visit Blue Mountain in New Albany, Miss., at 2 p.m. They return home next weekend for a GSC series against New Orleans, with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for a noon first pitch.
