Bucs Strike Out 15 In 5-1 Win

Box Score MEMPHIS—Four Christian Brothers University pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters as the Bucs won 5-1 over visiting LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.

The Magicians (0-11) struck first with a double and a pair of groundouts in the first inning, but CBU starter Jon-Michael Davis (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) started a string of strikeouts with the third out of the inning.  He struck out two more in the second, and the CBU (6-10) bats picked him up in the bottom of that inning.  Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) drew a walk and stole second, then a Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) single moved him up to third base.  Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score Cooley, and Hunter Frey (Paris, Tenn./Henry County HS) smoked an RBI single through the left side to put the Bucs ahead for good.

Cody Warren (Orlando, Fla./Orangewood Christian HS) followed back-to-back walks with a two-run double down the left field line in the fourth inning to extend the Bucs' lead to 4-1.  Ryan Logan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS) scored the game's final run in the fifth after he singled, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches, and came home on a bases-loaded walk to #D.J. Simpson#.

Meanwhile, reliever Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) mowed down the Magicians, fanning nine as he scattered three singles and a hit batter over five innings, earning his first college win after taking over for Davis, who allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts in two innings.  Matt Ariemma (Bartlett, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) fanned two in a scoreless third inning, and Jake Porter (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Mount Juliet HS) struck out one as he pitched around a two-out single in a scoreless ninth.

Kelly and Frey collected two hits each for the Bucs.

The Bucs will return to action tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, for a 1 p.m. game against Edgewood.  They are at home this weekend for a GSC series against Alabama-Huntsville.
