Wildcats Top Bucs 9-1 in Non-Conference Finale

Jimmy Franklin was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two steals in the Bucs' 9-1 loss at Bethel Monday afternoon.
Box Score MCKENZIE, Tenn.—Host Bethel made the most of their four hits as they claimed a 9-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Monday afternoon in the Bucs' final non-conference game of the season.

The Wildcats (30-18) set the tone for the game in the bottom of the first inning, when Cody Crocker doubled, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a groundout to give the Wildcats an early lead.  The 1-0 margin held until the fifth inning, when a hit batter, a passed ball, and a pair of productive outs created another run.

The Bucs (11-32) cut that lead in half in the top of the sixth, when Jimmy Franklin (Knoxville, Tenn./Powell HS) doubled to left-center and scored on a throwing error.  The Wildcats tacked on two more unearned runs on a two-out rally in the seventh inning.  A walk and a hit batter set the stage for a Chase Pilkenton single, and a fielding error on the single allowed two runs to score, extending their lead to 4-1.

In the eighth, the Wildcats put it out of reach before the first out of the inning.  Two walks and an error loaded the bases with none out.  Lance Jarreld hit a two-run single up the middle, and Brian Ferrell hit a three-run homer to right to set the final margin at 9-1.

Miles Anderson (Milan, Tenn./Milan HS) took the hard-luck loss, allowing no earned runs over seven innings, scattering two hits and one walk against four strikeouts.  At the plate, Franklin went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, and a run scored.

The Bucs wrap up the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at West Alabama, with Saturday's doubleheader set for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
