Box Score 2 LIVINGSTON, Ala.—Host West Alabama swept a Gulf South Conference twinbill from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday, taking a 4-0 win in the opener before rolling to a 14-1 win in game two.
After five scoreless innings in the opener, the Tigers (27-20, 14-9 GSC) used a triple and a double to start the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead. They tacked on three runs in the seventh inning on an error, three doubles, and a single, to set the final margin.
Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) led the Bucs (11-34, 3-20) with two hits in the first game.
In game two, the Tigers exploded for four runs in the first inning and never looked back. They added three more in the third and fifth innings to take a 10-0 lead before the Bucs scored their lone run of the day in the sixth inning when
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) singled and scored on a
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) sacrifice fly. UWA tacked on four more in the bottom of the sixth to set the final margin.
Wilson went 2-for-2 in the game for the Bucs.
The Bucs wrap up the regular season tomorrow against UWA at 1 p.m. No. 9 Delta State clinched the top seed in the GSC Tournament today, so the Bucs will open GSC Tournament play against DSU Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, Ga. The Bucs will also play at 3:30 or 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the time and opponent depending on Friday's result against DSU.
