Hawks Sweep Bucs 8-5, 4-0

Charles Armour went 2-for-3, but the Bucs dropped an 8-5 decision in the first game at Shorter Saturday. Shorter also won game two 4-0.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROME, Ga.-Host Shorter used a four-run inning in each game to claim a doubleheader sweep over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Friday afternoon, winning the opener 8-5 before blanking the Bucs 4-0 in the second game.

In the opener, the Bucs (6-23, 0-14 GSC) struck first in the top of the first inning when Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) singled, moved to third on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) sacrifice fly. The Hawks (12-18, 7-5) took the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs on three singles, a walk, and a steal of home plate. They tacked on another run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles, but the Bucs rallied in the top of the sixth.

Keathley led off the sixth with a single, and back-to-back singles to left from Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) and Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) brought Keathley home. Ryan Knott (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) tripled to score Armour and Wilson, and Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) doubled Knott home to put the Bucs on top 5-4. But it unraveled in the bottom of the inning, with the Hawks scoring four runs on three singles and two doubles.

Jenkins and Armour collected two hits each for the Bucs, while Knott had two RBI.

In the second game, the Hawks' four-run inning was the bottom of the second. Three straight singles and a double-steal scored the first run, and a pair of doubles pushed three more runs across. Shorter starter Cameron Rich blanked the Bucs over six innings, allowing just two hits and three walks against six strikeouts.

The Bucs and Hawks meet again Saturday at noon. The Bucs' next home game is set for Saturday, April 6, against Valdosta State at noon.
