Box Score MEMPHIS–The Christian Brothers University Bucs rapped out five extra-base hits and scored in five of the game's seven innings as they cruised to a 12-2 win over LeMoyne-Owen Tuesday afternoon at Buc Field.
The Bucs (8-23) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, as they played as the visiting team since the game was originally scheduled to be the Magicians' home game.
Jordan Wilson (Arlington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) was hit by a pitch and
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) singled. After a wild pitch,
Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) hit a single through the left side to bring them both home.
The Bucs broke it open in the fourth inning.
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) led off with a triple, and he scored on a wild pitch.
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) singled, and the Bucs loaded the bases when Goodwin walked and Ambuehl was hit by a pitch.
Ryan Knott (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) hit a sacrifice fly, and singles by
Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) and
Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) brought two more runs in to push the lead to 6-0.
Back-to-back doubles by Kelly and Jordan Wilson in the fifth brought another run in, but the Magicians (9-10-1) rallied in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice on a walk, two singles, and two stolen bases.
The Bucs added another run in the top of the sixth, loading the bases on a Knott walk, a Burnett single, and a Jenkins hit batter.
Cale Alexander (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to bring Knott home and extend the lead to 8-2. The Bucs set the final margin in the top of the seventh with four more runs. Jordan Wilson led off with a walk and scored when Will Wilson blasted a homer to centerfield. With two out, Knott was hit by a pitch and scored on a Burnett double to left-center. Jenkins hit an RBI single to score Burnett for the game's final run.
Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out six batters in five innings before giving way to
Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS), who tossed two perfect innings of relief. Burnett went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Jenkins, Kelly, and Will Wilson collected two hits each.
The Bucs return to action Saturday at noon when they host Valdosta State for a doubleheader.
