Lions Sweep Bucs 5-0, 12-6

Michael Lartigue threw three and two-thirds scoreless innings, but the Bucs dropped a 5-0 decision to North Alabama in Saturday's first game. UNA won the second game 12-6.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEMPHIS–Visiting North Alabama swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 5-0 and claiming a 12-6 win in the nightcap.

The Lions (24-18-1, 14-9 GSC) scored single runs in five different innings in the opener. They used two singles, a hit batter, and a sacrifice fly to score a run in the first, and they tacked on another in the second on a double and a single. A pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt brought in a run in the fourth, and they added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to set the final margin.

UNA pitchers Chad Boughner and Daymon Eriksen held the Bucs scoreless on four hits. Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) went 2-for-4 in the game for the Bucs (9-31, 1-20). Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) tossed three and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief.

In the second game, the Lions scored one in the first on a walk and three singles, and they scored three in the third on two singles and two doubles. They added a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, and they blew it open with a five-run sixth on two walks, four singles, and a double.

The Bucs answered with five in the bottom of the sixth. Jenkins led off with a single and scored when UNA committed two errors on a Tanner Sandel (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin HS) sacrifice bunt, sending Sandel to third. Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) reached on another error. Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) and Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) followed with singles. Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score Kelly, and a two-run Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) single pulled the Bucs within an 11-5 margin.

In the top of the seventh, UNA scored a run on a walk and a double, and Kelly was hit by a pitch and pinch-runner Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored on a single by Keathley.

Jenkins and Keathley went 2-for-4 in the game for the Bucs.

The Bucs return to the field Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they take on North Alabama again for Senior Day.
