Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn.–Host Union swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon in the final day of the regular season, winning the opener 6-5 and claiming a 9-1 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, the two teams traded runs quickly for the first half of the game. The Bulldogs (11-32, 4-21 GSC) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Bucs (9-35, 1-24) answered with a run of their own in the top of the second.
Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) singled with two out. After a
Cale Alexander (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) walk,
Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) singled Ambuehl in. Union regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second on three singles and a sacrifice fly.
The Bucs took the lead with a three-run third inning.
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) drew a leadoff walk, and singles by
Braden Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) and
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) followed, scoring Kelly. A
Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) sacrifice bunt moved Keathley and Wilson up to second and third, and a
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) sacrifice fly and a wild pitch brought them in to give the Bucs a 4-3 edge. Union used a triple and a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the bottom of the third, and they regained the lead in the fourth with a run on an error and a single.
The Bucs tied it back up at five in the top of the fifth inning. Wilson led off with a single. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, Cooley singled him home to tie the game. But Union answered again in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a run on three straight singles with two out. From there, pitching dominated, as Union set down the final 13 Bucs in order and the Bucs retired 10 of the final 12 Union batters.
Wilson went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Jenkins was 2-for-5 in the game. Ambuehl went 2-for-3, and Cooley drove in two runs.
Jake Porter (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Mount Juliet HS) threw a scoreless eighth out of the bullpen.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the second game, scoring two in the first to take a quick lead. The Bucs scored a run in the top of the second to pull within 2-1 as Wilson singled and scored on a
Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) single. But Union scored a run of their own in the bottom of the second and blew it open with a five-run fourth inning. They scored one final run in the sixth to set the final margin.
Union pitchers Derek Roof and Jeremey Stack combined for a two-hitter in the game.
The Bucs return to action Thursday night at 6 p.m. when they open Taziki's GSC Tournament play against No. 1 Delta State at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Bucs will also play Friday against Valdosta State or North Alabama.
