Box Score MEMPHIS–The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored runs in five innings as they claimed an 8-4 win over Victory Tuesday afternoon at Buc Field.
The Bucs (9-26) struck quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jarrett Jenkins (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) hit a leadoff single to right and moved to third on an error, scoring on a
Tanner Sandel (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin HS) single to center. Sandel stole second and later scored on a single by
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS).
The Eagles (25-14) tied the game with two runs in the top of the third with a single and two doubles.
The Bucs regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Charles Armour (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) was hit by a pitch, and
Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) fouled off seven pitches to draw a 12-pitch walk. After a
Ryan Knott (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) sacrifice bunt, an RBI groundout by
Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) and a wild pitch brought in Armour and Ambuehl.
The Bucs added a run to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Knott hit a leadoff triple to right and scored on a Burnett sacrifice fly.
The Eagles pulled within a run again in the seventh with two runs on a two-out error after a single, a walk, and a wild pitch had put runners on second and third.
The Bucs tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning as Kelly walked and pinch-runner
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) scored on an Ambuehl sacrifice fly after a
Will Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) sacrifice bunt and an Armour single moved him to third.
CBU put it out of reach in the eighth with two more runs. Sandel drew a one-out walk and scored when Cooley reached on a three-base error. Wilson singled to center with two out to score Cooley.
Ethan Taylor (Bolton, Tenn./Arlington HS) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first win.
Jake Porter (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Mount Juliet HS) tossed two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.
Knott went 3-for-3, while Jenkins was 3-for-5. Wilson went 2-for-4, Burnett drove in two runs and Sandel scored twice.
The Bucs return to action Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Central Baptist in the makeup game of a game originally rained out March 5.
