Box Score 2 MEMPHIS-Visiting Lindenwood scored late in both games to claim a sweep of the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field, winning the opener 5-3 and claiming a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Lions (2-0) plated three runs in the top of the first inning, loading the bases on a blooper and a pair of soft grounders before a balk and a double cleared the bases. The Bucs (0-2) fought back to tie the game. They scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth as
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) reached on a single and came around to score on a
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) single. In the sixth, they tied it with a pair of runs. Goodwin drew a leadoff walk, and
Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) reached on an error on his sacrifice bunt.
Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) reached on a catcher's interference to load the bases, and
Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) pushed Goodwin across with a groundout. Seaman scored on a balk, but the Bucs left runners on second and third to end the inning.
The Lions took the lead for good in the top of the eighth. Jerry Roam singled and scored on a bases-loaded passed ball after two walks loaded the bases. They tacked on an insurance run on an error in the top of the ninth to set the final margin.
In game two, the Lions again took an early lead with a run in the third and a run in the fourth, but the Bucs answered in the bottom of the fourth. With two out,
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) doubled to left and scored on a
Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) single. Cooley doubled Neal in but was thrown out at home trying to score on a
Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) single to center. The Lions took the lead for good an inning later, using a walk, a stolen base and a single to plate the winning run.
Weather permitting, the Bucs and Lions meet again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. They host William Woods next weekend, with Saturday's doubleheader set for a noon start and Sunday's game scheduled for 1 p.m.
