No. 22 Statesmen Blank Bucs 10-0

Michael Lartigue tossed four and two-thirds hitless innings of relief, but the Bucs dropped a 10-0 decision at No. 22 Delta State Sunday.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.-No. 22 Delta State only scored in two innings against the Christian Brothers University Bucs, but they scored four runs in the third inning and six more in the eighth to claim a 10-0 win.

The Statesmen (10-5, 9-3 GSC) used five hits to push across four runs in the third inning to take an early lead.

The Bucs (4-13, 0-9) threatened in the seventh and eighth innings. Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) drew a one-out walk in the seventh and moved to second on a Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) single to right, but a lineout ended the rally. In the eighth, Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) hit a one-out single to right and moved to second on a Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) base hit, but a strikeout ended that rally, with the Bucs stranding two runners for the second straight inning.

The Statesmen ended the game with six runs in the bottom of the eighth, cashing in on four hits, an error and three walks to set the final margin.

Burnett went 2-for-4 in the game for the Bucs. Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) tossed four and two-thirds hitless innings of relief, allowing two walks against two strikeouts.

The Bucs step out of GSC play Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Illinois Wesleyan. They host North Alabama in a GSC series this weekend, with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for a noon start with Sunday's single game set for 1 p.m.
