Charles Kelly went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored as the Bucs won 11-3 over Illinois Wesleyan Thursday.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first six innings on their way to an 11-3 win over visiting Illinois Wesleyan Thursday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.

The Bucs (5-14) jumped on the board quickly with a pair of first-inning runs. Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) led off with a double into the gap in left-center, and he moved to third on a passed ball. Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) reached base on a walk, and a wild pitch scored Burnett and moved Kelly to second. Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) hit a single past the diving IWU (3-3) second baseman to score Kelly.

CBU took advantage of mistakes in a three-run second inning. Josh Ambuehl (Las Vegas, Nev./Arlington HS) hit a leadoff single and scored when Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) reached on a two-out error. After a wild pitch and two walks, Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) hit a two-run single to center to give the Bucs a 5-0 cushion.

CBU tacked on four more in the fifth inning. Hopkins doubled with one out, and Stephen Joe (Madison, Miss./Ridgeland HS) singled him home. After a Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) single, Burnett hit an RBI single through the left side to score Joe. Smith reached on another two-out eror, scoring Goodwin and Burnett to give the Bucs a 9-0 lead. Kelly scored again in the sixth as he hit a leadoff single and came in on a Joe single with two out.

The Titans broke through with two runs in the seventh, using two hits and an error to plate two runs. They scored another run in the eighth on three hits and two errors.

Kelly set the final margin in the bottom of the eighth when he blasted a 2-1 pitch down the left field line for his first home run of the season.

Kelly went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs in the game. Joe and Hopkins each went 2-for-5, and Burnett was 2-for-4. Neal drove in two runs.

Michael Spain (Huron, Tenn./Lexington HS) ran his record to 2-0 as he allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk against eight strikeouts in seven innings. Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) allowed an unearned run on three hits in the eighth, and Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) threw a perfect ninth with one strikeout.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they host a GSC doubleheader against North Alabama. Saturday's single game is also set for a 1 p.m. start.
