Wildcats Top Bucs 7-2

Josh Hopkins had an RBI single, but the Bucs dropped a 7-2 decision to Bethel Tuesday afternoon at Pringles Park.
Box Score JACKSON, Tenn.-Bethel took advantage of seven walks and three errors as they claimed a 7-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday afternoon at Pringles Park.

The Wildcats (15-10) struck with a run in the first inning on three walks and a bunt single, and they plated three runs in the fifth on a walk, a single, an error, a sacrifice fly, a double-steal and a passed ball.

The Bucs (6-21) cut the deficit in half in the top of the seventh inning. Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) singled to right-center and moved to second on a Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) single. After an error loaded the bases, Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) drove in Burnett as he grounded into a force play, and Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) singled Smith home to cut the margin to 4-2.

But the Wildcats tacked on a run on an error, a groundout and a single in the bottom of the seventh, and they set the final margin in the eighth with two runs on a hit batter and three singles.

Smith went 2-for-4 in the game for the Bucs. Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) allowed an unearned run in one inning of work, allowing one hit.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. as they host Rhodes.
