Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Miss.-No. 22 Delta State swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs 8-1 and 12-0 Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, the Statesmen (9-5, 8-3 GSC) scored two runs in the first inning and four in the fourth to take control of the game. They added a run in the seventh and eighth innings as well.
The Bucs (4-12, 0-8) scored their lone run of the day in the top of the eighth. Pinch hitter
Stephen Joe (Madison, Miss./Ridgeland HS) reached on an error and moved to second on a
Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) single. #Josh Hopkins singled him home with two out, but the Bucs left the bases loaded in the inning.
Burnett went 2-for-4 in the game for the Bucs.
In game two, the Statesmen scored in five of their six innings. They scored one run in the second, three in the third and fourth innings, and they put it out of reach with a four-run fifth. They added another tally in the sixth to set the final margin.
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) led the Bucs' offense in the game, going 3-for-3.
The Bucs and Statesmen meet again Sunday at 2 p.m. for a single game.
