Box Score MEMPHIS-Visiting West Georgia spoiled Senior Day for the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field as they claimed a 9-1 win in the Bucs' final home game of the season.
The Wolves (18-24, 12-14 GSC) scored all the runs they would need in the top of the second despite not hitting the ball out of the infield. Three bunt singles loaded the bases with one out, and Artemis Khadkodaian drove in a pair of runs on a single to short.
UWG added three runs to the lead in the third inning on two triples and two doubles.
The Bucs (11-31, 3-24) shaved a run off the deficit in the bottom of the eighth.
Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) doubled to right-center. After moving to third on a balk, he scored on a single to right by
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS).
The Wolves set the final margin when they plated four runs in the top of the ninth, scoring on three walks, a hit batter and a pair of doubles.
Neal and
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) collected two hits each for CBU.
Michael Spain (Huron, Tenn./Lexington HS) threw three and a third scoreless innings of relief, scattering two hits and a walk while striking out one.
CBU honored their eight seniors before the game.
The Bucs wrap up the regular season with four games on the road. They visit Rhodes Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. before visiting Lee next weekend in their final GSC series, with Saturday's doubleheader set for 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game scheduled for 1 p.m. The GSC Tournament will be in Birmingham, Ala., May 2-6.
