Box Score MEMPHIS-Host Rhodes scored four runs on squeeze plays as they rallied for a 5-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday afternoon in the Bucs' final non-conference game of the season.
The Bucs (11-32) never trailed until the final score.
Tyler Burnett (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) put CBU on the board in the top of the first inning as he singled to center, moved to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball, and scored on a
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) groundout. CBU extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning when they scored two more runs. Cooley singled to center and moved to third on a
Josh Hopkins (Olive Branch, Miss./Southern Baptist Educational Center) double.
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) brought both home with a two-run single to right field.
The Lynx (29-11) used a double, a single and a pair of squeeze bunts to plate two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the CBU lead to 3-2. A double, a sacrifice and another squeeze tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bucs regained the lead in the top of the eighth.
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) and Cooley singled, and
Justin Neal (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) laid down a bunt single to load the bases with none out. Hopkins scored Smith with a sacrifice fly. Cooley moved to third on the play, and Neal stole second to put runners on second and third with just one out, but a pair of groundouts were unable to bring another run home.
The Lynx used a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch to put the tying run on third with one out. After a walk, they successfully converted another squeeze bunt to tie the game, and Josh Berkey singled to right to score the winning run.
Burnett, Cooley and Neal collected two hits each for the Bucs.
Taylor Seaman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) tossed two scoreless innings of relief, with three strikeouts against one hit.
The Bucs close out the regular season this weekend as they visit Lee, with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. both days.
