Laravie Wins Second Straight GSC Player of the Week Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, Christian Brothers University guard Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) has been named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week. Laravie averaged 33.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 58 percent from the floor and 63 percent from three point range.

Laravie scored 30 points, along with three rebounds and three assists in the Bucs 81-77 win over Mississippi College on Thursday, Jan. 17, shooting 9-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three, in 37 minutes.

The Kettering, Ohio native scored a career-high 37 points in the Bucs win over GSC-leader Delta State, along with four assists and two rebounds. Laravie shot 63 percent against the Statesmen, including 7-of-11 from three in 38 minutes.

The Bucs bested the Statesmen 90-88, with Laravie sinking a crucial free throw in crunch-time. Laravie is now the only player in under coach Mike Nienaber to score at least 30 points in four consecutive games.

Laravie is also the first Buc since Nick Kohs to win back-to-back conference player of the week awards (Feb. 2009).

The Bucs look to keep their four game win streak alive when they travel to Shorter and West Georgia on Thursday, Jan 24 and Saturday, Jan. 26. Thursday's contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
