Rhodes Holds off Bucs

Box Score MEMPHIS - Visiting Rhodes College scored three runs in the third inning and held on to defeat the Christian Brothers University baseball team, 3-0, on Wednesday at Nadicksbernd Field. The Lynx used six pitchers in the combined shutout. 

FINAL SCORE: Rhodes (8-9) 3, CBU (6-15) 0

GAME CHANGER
  • Rhodes' pitchers combined for nine strikeouts, and held the Bucs to just six hits. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rhodes outhit the Bucs 8-6.
  • Jaime Soto (2-for-3) was the only CBU player with multiple hits. 
  • Jonathan Baldelli (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, and six hits, in seven innings of work. 

KEY PLAYS
  • Rhodes scored the only runs of the game in the third inning, capitalizing on opportunistic base running and a CBU miscue.
  • CBU had an opportunity to score in the fourth inning, but Soto was thrown out at home and Rhodes pitcher, Patrick Morrison got a pair of outs to escape the jam. 
  • In the fifth the Bucs also had a pair of runners in scoring position, but were unable to take advantage of the opportunity. 

WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Bucs are scheduled to host No. 1 Delta State for a three-game Gulf South Conference series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
