Delta State Holds Off Bucs in Nightcap to Earn Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Miss.  – After earning a convincing victory in the opener, Delta State held on for a 3-1 victory, in the nightcap, to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University baseball team, on Saturday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field. 
  
GAME ONE:  DSU 16 (9-3, 3-2 GSC), CBU 1 (2-10, 0-5 GSC)  (7)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Statesmen scored multiple runs in four of their six innings. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bucs were outhit 14-3.
- J.D. Goodspeed drove in the lone run of the contest for the Bucs. 

KEY PLAYS:
- The Statesmen scored a pair of runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third. 
- DSU put the game out of reach with six runs in the fourth. 
- The hosts finished the scoring with four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. 
- CBU scored in the seventh when Goodspeed hit a sac fly that scored Ben Brocato

GAME TWO:  DSU 3 (10-3, 4-2 GSC), CBU 1 (2-11, 0-6 GSC)  
 
GAME CHANGER:
- CBU left the bases loaded in the fifth, and left a pair stranded in the seventh. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bucs were outhit 5-4
- Four different players recorded hits for CBU.
- Luke Wewers drove in the lone run for CBU, hitting his first home run of the season. 
- CBU starting pitcher Nick Myers held the Statesmen to just three runs on five hits, with eight strikeouts. 

KEY PLAYS:
- As it had in the previous two games, DSU jumped ahead 1-0 in the first. 
- The Bucs put the tying run on second and third in the second inning only to see Brune strikeout Goodspeed to end the frame.
- Delta State increased its lead to 3-0, in the fourth on a bases loaded single.
- CBU loaded the bases in the fifth, but Cooper  Brune struck out Keagan Voss and Cameron Kroeger to end the threat.
Luke Wewers hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh, cutting the lead to 3-1. CBU had the tying runs at first and second with two outs, but forced a ground out to end the game.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 when they host Arkansas Monticello. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
