CBU athletics continues to honor its senior student-athletes from all spring sports who had their seasons/careers cut short due to cancellation of competition across all sports in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Julia Schassburger was a four-year member of the softball team, and was a CBU Silver Scholar. Schassburger graduated with a 3.59 GPA in natural science. She appeared in 62 career games as a pitcher, and 63 as a utility player, finishing with six wins in the circle with nine complete games. As a hitter, she had four doubles, a triple, a home run and 16 RBIs
What is your major?
My major is Natural Science with a minor in psychology.
What are your future plans/career goals?
After I graduate, I plan on taking my GRE, and apply to Physical Therapy school. Since I will be applying in August, I will be taking a gap year. During my gap year, I will work as a medical scribe to gain clinical experience, and help people while doing so.
What were your thoughts when you found out the season was being canceled?
I was very sad. I do not believe it has fully hit me yet. To lose, not only my senior year, but my senior season was devastating. I just hope my fellow seniors are doing well.
What led you to CBU?
What led me to CBU is their emphasis on academics. It is a small college where you get to know your professors one-on-one, and that was very enticing.
What has been your favorite thing about your time here?
My favorite thing about my time here has been meeting so many people who I would not have met otherwise. I have also loved being able to play my favorite sport with people who have pushed me to be not only the best player, but the best person I could be.
What is one of your best memories from your career?
My favorite memory was playing Delta State on my birthday junior year. My parents were able to come in from Chicago with my grandma, so it was very special that they got to see me play before I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome that year. Unfortunately, we ended up losing 2-4, but this game will also be one of my favorite memories.
What is one of the most funny/embarrassing moments from your career?
I guess the funniest moment was when I was hit in the stomach while pitching in the cages during the off-season. It was not funny at the moment, but looking back I get a laugh at the pictures and memoires it created. So, thanks Elaina!
Who is someone who has had a major impact on you – be it in your athletic career or personally?
My family has always had the biggest impact on me. I do not know where I would be without them.
What is your favorite activity or best talent outside of your sport?
My favorite activity in quarantine is walking my dogs and reading new books. My favorite activity outside of quarantine is going on new adventures with my friends.
If you had to be quarantined with four celebrities, who would they be?
I would be stuck in quarantine with Chis Evans, Liam Hemsworth, Robert Pattinson, and Zac Efron.
If you were going to be isolated in your house for a month, what are the first three items you'd make sure to grab at the store?
The first three items I would grab would be an at-home gel nail kit, tanning oil, and the purple Doritos.

You have the power to make one law – what would it be?
I would make an awful law maker, but I would make eating oranges with the peel on illegal (sorry Ashley).
If you could give your 10 year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell myself that college will be over in the blink of an eye, so to take time and appreciate everything while it's happening.
