BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After earning a pair of top-three finishes for the Christian Brothers University track & field team, at the KMS Invite, Gioia Scopel has been named Gulf South Conference Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. 

Scopel jumped 1.60 meters to finish third in the high jump, and followed that up with a third place finish (9.03) in the 60m hurdles. After posting season bests earlier in the year, the Belluno, Italy native is currently ranked first in the Gulf South Conference in both events. 

This marks the first career honor for Scopel and the first of the indoor season for CBU. 
 
Both teams are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Feb. 5 when they return to Birmingham to take part in the Jaguar Invitational.
