BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Christian Brothers University men's basketball players
Christian Jones and
Anias Futrell have been named All-Gulf South Conference, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Jones was named to the first team, while Futrell earned second team honors.
Jones is the first CBU men's player to earn first team honors since Adam Dieball and Joe Laravie in 2018-19.
Jones leads the league in assists (6.3), ranks fourth in rebounding (7.1) and 11th in scoring (15.4). The Memphis native has collected five double-doubles this season, and is also the lone player in the GSC to record a triple-double. He has also knocked down 45 percent of his field goal attempts and is 78 percent from the free throw stripe. Jones poured in a career-high 31 points at Alabama Huntsville (2.24).
Futrell leads the Bucs, and ranks fourth in the league with 17.8 points per game. The Saint Louis native also ranks seventh in the GSC, hitting at a 47 percent clip from the floor and ninth with a 36 percent percentage from three-point range.
Futrell has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season, and poured in a CBU career-high 31 points in the season-opener at LeMoyne-Owen. He has also knocked down at least three long-range shots five times this season. He also ranks seventh in the league with one blocked shot per game.
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 5 when they are set to open the GSC Tournament at Alabama Huntsville. Tipoff is set for 7 PM.
