Memphis, TN- The CBU baseball team officially begins its 2026 season with an exciting opening stretch that includes a highly anticipated home opening series. The Buccaneers will welcome fans to USA Stadium in Millington on February 7 and 8 for a four-game doubleheader weekend, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. on both days, marking an important early chapter in the program's continued growth.
Opening day represents more than just the start of a new season. It is the first chance for this group to compete together after months of preparation throughout the fall and winter. The focus entering the year has been on building chemistry, establishing consistent habits, and laying a foundation that can carry the program forward.
That preparation has shown early signs of paying off, with players like Jackson Licata and Charlie Faoro helping set the tone, while Kayne Braxton and Thomas Leiden bring energy, competitiveness, and versatility to the lineup. Their contributions highlight the balance and depth that the coaching staff believes this roster can develop as the season unfolds.
Head coach Zach Ullrich has been encouraged by the commitment and connection within the group.
"We are excited about the group we brought in," Ullrich said. "The guys have been working really hard through the fall and winter. We have a good group that gels really well, and I'm excited to see how we perform."
The first home games on February 7 and 8 provide an opportunity for the team to showcase that chemistry in front of the CBU faithful. Each doubleheader will test the team's depth and resilience while giving players valuable early-season experience. More importantly, the home opener signals the beginning of a season centered on steady progress and belief in the process.
Looking beyond opening weekend, the vision for CBU baseball remains clear and ambitious.
"Our goal is to make the playoffs, something that hasn't been done here at CBU in a really long time," Ullrich said.
With leadership from players like Licata, Faoro, Braxton, and Leiden, and a unified mindset throughout the roster, the opening games serve as the first steps in building a competitive team determined to push CBU baseball back into postseason contention.
