MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs opened their Gulf South Conference schedule with a 3-3 draw Saturday night against Montevallo.
Early on, the Lady Falcons (3-3-3, 0-0-1 GSC) seemed well on their way to a win in the first 15 minutes. Paula Radmard scored in the eighth minute to put Montevallo on top, and they made it 2-0 in the 13th minute on an own goal as CBU's defense knocked the ball into the net while attempting to clear for a corner.
The Lady Bucs would score the next three goals, however, to take the lead.
Gigja Heidarsdottir (Hafnarfjörður, Iceland/Flensborg School) scored off an
Elin Svavarsdottir (Reykjavík, Iceland/Menntaskolinn vid Hamrahlid) cross in the 37th minute to pull the Lady Bucs within one at the half.
In the 61st minute,
Annelise Nevarez (Cumming, Ga./Pinecrest Academy) scored off a Svavarsdottir cross to tie the game, and she banged in the rebound off an
Anna Laskarzewska (Edmonton, Alberta/Archbishop O'Leary) shot in the 69th minute to put the Lady Bucs in front 3-2.
The lead wouldn't last, however, as Montevallo's Catherine Honey scored on a 78th-minute header to knot the game at three, and neither team could find the net over the remaining 32 minutes, including both overtime periods.
The game was remarkably even, with CBU out-shooting UM 21-18, but UM held a 12-9 edge in shots on goal.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action Wednesday at 1 p.m. as they visit Delta State.
