JACKSON, Tenn.—Host Union jumped to a big lead early and held on for a 4-3 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (3-7) raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first 39 minutes as Dejan Kostic scored in the 16th minute and Jake Carter added a pair in the 35th and 39th minutes.
The Bucs (4-6-1) cut into the lead just 18 seconds before halftime as
Billy Otieno (Ngong, Kenya/Kanunga HS) scored his second goal of the season.
Zach Tubinis (Memphis, Tenn./Houston HS) opened the second half scoring with a 54th-minute strike, but Union's Guilherme Reis answered in the 65th minute to put Union back in front by two goals.
Andrew Ballard (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored the game's final goal in the 71st minute.
For the game, the Bucs out-shot Union 20-13, including a 9-6 edge in shots on goal, but the Bulldogs made five saves to the Bucs' two.
The Bucs return to Gulf South Conference action Saturday afternoon when they host first-place West Florida at 3:30 p.m.
