BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - On Thursday, April 9 the Gulf South Conference announced an "Unbreakable GSC Records" social media campaign, and a pair of Christian Brothers University soccer accomplishments appear on the list.
Former CBU women's soccer player Missy Gregg's 135 goals from 2001-2002 and the 80 goals scored by the 2001 men's soccer team were included in the bracket.
All voting will take place on Twitter, with the GSC posting polls for each matchup to give fans and followers the opportunity to vote for the record they believe will not be broken. The timelines for voting, which opens Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m. CT, are included below.
Despite playing just two seasons, Gregg is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women's soccer history (135 goals). Her 73 goals (22 games) in the 2001 season are 30 more than her closest competitor.
Gregg set all-division records for points per game in a season (7.09), and career (5.98), points in a season (156), goals per game in a season (3.32) and career (2.81). She also holds the top two seasons in NCAA history in points, and goals. Her 21 straight games with at least one goal is still an NCAA record. In 47 games, she scored 135 goals with 17 assists for 287 career points. She was a two-time GSC and National Player of the Year, and she won the Honda Award as the NCAA's Woman of the year for 2002-03. And last but not least, she led CBU to a 47-2 record in two years, finishing as national runner-up as a junior and national champions as a senior.
The 2001 CBU men's soccer team scored 80 goals, a mark which remains a GSC record. The 2001 team, which finished 13-4-1, also holds the GSC record for points in a season 228. The 4.44 goals per game ranks 13th in NCAA Divison II history.
