BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Christian Brothers University men's soccer player
Maxi Galizzi was announced as one of the Gulf South Conference's Top 10 Award honorees, as released by the league office on Tuesday.
Annually, the GSC and its member institutions proudly recognize the top five female and top five male student-athletes in the conference to its Top Ten. These 10 student-athletes are then eligible for the league's highest honor, the Commissioner's Trophy. This award embodies the three underlying principles emphasized by the GSC: Compete, Graduate, Impact.
Galizzi is the seventh CBU men's student-athlete to garner a GSC Top 10 Award and is the first since Trey Casey, (men's basketball) earned the honor in 2014-15.
The Puerto Madryn, Argentina native native was named 2019 First Team All-GSC, and helped the Bucs advance to the final of the 2021 GSC Championship Series. In three seasons, Galizzi has scored 12 goals and added eight assists.
In the classroom, Galizzi was named to the 2019 GSC Fall All-Academic Team, and recently graduated with a 3.6 GPA in Business Administration. He was also a CBU Buc Silver Scholar.
Last year, Galizzi was one of just three student-athletes who was chosen to represent the GSC at the NCAA Student Leadership Forum.
Galizzi has also helped grow the game of soccer in the city of Memphis, as he is a volunteer coach for the non-profit group Play Where You Stay.
Women's basketball player Brynne Lytle was also named to the GSC Top 10, marking the fourth time in CBU has had two honorees in the same year.
