BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- CBU men's soccer's
Russell Brown (New Orleans, La.) and
Vicent Sanchis Olmedo (Valencia, Spain) both earned weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference (GSC) for the second time this season after standout performances in wins against No. 15 Auburn-Montgomery and Montevallo. They became the fifth and sixth men's soccer players to earn weekly honors from the GSC this season. Christian Brothers fall sports has now combined for nine GSC weekly honors on the season.
Player of the Week
Russell Brown, So., F
Brown won his second GSC Player of the Week award as his four goals and four shots overall helped the Buccaneers to extend their unbeaten streak to eight matches. To start the week, the sophomore recorded his second hat trick of the season with goals in the 36
th, 37
th, and 70
th-minutes, respectively, as Christian Brothers won 4-0 over Auburn Montgomery. He then followed this performance up with his fourth goal of the week, which would turn out to be the difference-maker in a 3-1 victory against Montevallo. Brown is now third in the GSC with ten goals scored.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Vicent Sanchis Olmedo, Gr., GK
Sanchis Olmedo only conceded one goal through two matches on top of making six saves to help Christian Brothers remain unbeaten in its last eight matches. The graduate began the week by registering his fourth clean sheet of the season in a 4-0 victory over Auburn Montgomery. He also had three saves on seven shots faced. Then, Sanchis Olmedo followed this up with a three-save performance while allowing just one goal as Christian Brothers defeated Montevallo by a score of 3-1.
